Box Cañon Falls Park is an amazing place to experience the power of nature up close. The waterfall is incredibly impressive, and you can get so close that you actually feel the cool mist from the rushing water. The park is very well maintained, and the main path to the falls is easy and accessible for most visitors. For those looking for a little more adventure, the trail up the mountain is steeper, but the panoramic views are absolutely worth the effort. A fantastic stop in Ouray that I would highly recommend.
Box Cañon Falls
Enjoy an easy 500 foot walk into the thundering waterfalls! With access to the high bridge, perimeter trail, and nature center. The Box Cañon Falls is a must see in Ouray, Colorado! Box Cañon Falls is the culmination of Canyon Creek before it joins the Uncompahgre River near Ouray. The water plummets through a very narrow quartzite gorge with power and force.

It was pretty but a little overrated. Definitely a must do when in Ouray to check it out. Highlight was doing this and then going straight into the perimeter hike connected to the upper Box Canon falls. The girl at the desk was super sweet, kind and helpful.
The falls are really fun and the black swallow nests here during the summer months. There are several hikes in the area varying in difficulty and length. There is a small wildlife walk around back to the visitors center. The hike up to the tunnel is a bit of a workout but I'm not nearly in moderate-advanced hiking shape and I made it. Fyi, this is not an advanced hike. If you push through and take breaks you should be fine is just a lot of elevation over a very short distance and your already at over 8k feet.
Cool natural feature managed by town of Ouray. Small visitor center with small parking lot be prepared to walk a short way to the entrance. Several trails and options based on individual abilities. Nice over view of town from upper falls trail. Worth the entry fee.
One of the highlights of my trip! Make sure you have good hiking shoes, and watch for your steps since you are in an icy wet canyon. The middle section was closed while I was here, but since I went in the winter time, I was in the canyon completely by myself for free. It also connects to the parameter trail that you can take around the city if Ouray! There are a lot of stairs, so be prepared!
