Had a great time on our tour with San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours! We had to make an adjustment to our private tour and Greg was very understanding and accommodating. I was able to take my two goldendoodles with to Yankee Boy Basin and had a great time. We took a Jeep Gladiator and although it was unseasonably warm, brought water for the dogs and they did just fine. Greg is a great guide and full of knowledge about the area and is a genuinely kind man. Highly recommend San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours if you're in Ouray!!
We did the morning tour up to Yankee Boy basin and had an amazing time. Keith was an incredible tour guide who was knowledgeable, funny and most importantly, patient with our kids. The views were amazing and even though we were on bench seats mounted to the back of a truck, we felt completely safe the entire trip. I highly recommend this tour if you come to Ouray. And make sure to ask for Keith!!
Here we are—eight adventure-loving friends having an unforgettable time on a full-day jeep tour! Our guide, Greg, was phenomenal. He made it clear that our safety and enjoyment were his top priorities, and he delivered on both. Greg shared a mix of personal stories and local history that gave us a deep appreciation for the region and its rich past. We passed through several ghost towns—Animas Forks, Capital City, Carson, and Eureka—and climbed to dizzying heights on mountain passes like Corkscrew, Hurricane (near Lake Como), California, Animas Forks, Cinnamon (leading to Lake City), and on to Lake San Cristobal. The views from 12,000 feet were absolutely breathtaking. We stopped for lunch in Lake City, a charming little town of just 500 people, once a booming mining hub. Nearby Lake San Cristobal is the second-largest natural lake in Colorado—stunning and serene. On our return, we drove past Engineer Pass, then back through Animas Forks, Eureka, Howardsville, Silverton, and Red Mountain Pass. Along the way, we saw ATVs zipping by, marmots, deer, chipmunks, waterfalls, alpine cirques, golden aspen groves, and remnants of old mining operations. At Engineer Pass, we even came across a shepherd with his flock grazing in the valley—an incredibly peaceful and timeless scene, one that felt like it could be a final resting place for the soul. This was, without a doubt, the highlight of our time in Ouray! Thanks, Greg! ~Ally :)
I enjoyed a four hour tour with our guide Conde. We went to Governor basin and the Camp Bird mining area. In addition to the great golden aspens on the trip, our guide provided lots of insights regarding the mining history of the area. I highly recommend this company And will use them when I’m here again next year.
